Welcome...

Little Dutch Boy Scubs the street

In May of 2009 we had the pleasure of going to The Tulip Time Festival in Holland Michigan. If you want to attend a family oriented event Tulip Time Festival is well worth the drive. Above is a photo I took of this little lad scrubbing the street befor the parade would begin. Earlier the Mayor and councilors upon white glove inspection deemed the street "dirty" so in true Dutch style they scrub the street. Tulip Time Festival - Holland Michigan

Captain Morgan Parade Title: King & Queen of Captain Morgan Parade at Fantasy Fest 2009

The above photo was taken during the Captain Morgan Parade which occurs during Fantasy Fest in Key West Florida, an annual event held over 10 day period around Halloween. The King and Queen of this parade earn the prestigious title by acquiring the largest amount of money for AIDS awareness, not by popularity or votes. If you are an Adult and want to attend the ultimate in Halloween parties and you like original Margaritas and want to let your hair down Key West's Fantasy Fest is a must for you. One of the most challenging tasks for a photographer is getting photos at night outdoors so they look acceptable and not flat and lifeless. For this photo I used my Nikon Coolpix 8700 (8Mb) set at 50 ISO with a shutter speed of 1/60th and the aperture was f4.5 along with my SB-26 flash attached since the built in flash doesn't generate sufficient light to capture an event such as a night parade. I positioned myself up against a light post to aid in stabilizing the camera since 1/60th of a second is a slow speed and camera shake would be an issue. The slower shutter speed was chosen to allow some of the ambient light to be added the photo and to create just a little blur to the beads as they were being tossed to the spectators by the king giving the illusion of motion. When the flash fires it freezes the motion but the ambient light still was enough to be exposed.
